Manifesto against anti-Asian racism (2023)

During the COVID-19 pandemic, racism and other forms of prejudice against people of Asian descent have become more apparent and severe, which was also the case in the Netherlands. Yet, anti-Asian racism has been part of Dutch society for years. Systemic exclusion against these communities within Dutch society has existed since the arrival of the first people of Asian descent over a century ago.

Within an alliance of various advocacy groups, we have published a manifesto against anti-Asian racism in the Netherlands and handed it over to the National Coordinator of Discrimination and Racism in May 2023. I contributed as a coordinator, researcher, writer, and graphic designer, also as part of the Pan Asian Collective team. Read the manifesto here.

On March 7 2024, as part of the Pan Asian Collective team, I had the honour to visit the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, to discuss our work as a platform advocating for more authentic representation of people with Asian roots in the Netherlands, within the cultural field and beyond. We also handed over the manifesto as part of the above-mentioned alliance. Click here for read more about our meeting with former State Secretary Fleur Gräper-van Koolwijk.
